Africa Projects

One of our primary projects is bringing educational materials to the disadvantaged and needy children in remote villages of Africa. The provisioning of the 'RACHEL' system (Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning) for these children is one of our primary activities.

RACHEL provides a battery powered WiFi hotspot containing quality educational content, and tablet computers for the children to access them.

This allows children who have no internet service to have access to thousands of educational documents for their early education.

RACHEL can wirelessly deliver free digital educational content to nearby tablets, laptops, or smartphones for students in rural villages and townships with no internet or data plans available.

While we will continue to work through Rotary and write grants for education projects in Africa and the Philippines, we plan to expand effort to area which do not fit into the strict Rotary mandate. Some of these effort will include opportunities which require rapid response. Some will be trial efforts to develop evidence for Rotary Grant funding.

Dennis Buschman and local RACHEL trainer Mustapha

Education Project:
Delivering RACHEL Systems to Ghana

Ayana Mustapha Salifu, a friend and local RACHEL Trainer in Ghana, Africa, has identified 17 schools in the area that would benefit from the implementation of a RACHEL Project.

Each school would receive a RACHEL (wireless battery powered server), forty chromebooks with chargers, forty headphones, and a projector or TV monitor.

The estimated cost of the project is $116,450 USD.

Washroom Construction Projects

Our dear friend and talented RACHEL trainer, Mustapha, supports a program designed to help students and families of the local school build their own restroom facilities.

D&D Educational Foundation would like to join in supporting additional schools with similar projects.  The cost of each restroom facility is $12,000.

Ghana Sewing Project

Sewing Project

On behalf of the team at Encourage My Dream Foundation Ghana, it is a great privilege to present the "Sewing for Skill" initiative for your review and endorsement.

This project aims to address an urgent need in rural Ghanaian junior high schools by equipping classrooms with sewing laboratories—each furnished with sewing machines, starter kits, and fabrics—to transform technical and vocational education at an early age.

As current educational policy in Ghana mandates Career Technology instruction, many students, especially those in rural communities, lack the resources for essential hands-on activities. With your guidance and the Foundation's support, this project will:

  • Provide practical skills training in sewing, empowering students—particularly young girls—for lifelong self-sufficiency and confidence.
  • Improve career and life outcomes by motivating learners to pursue technical and design pathways, closing existing opportunity gaps.
  • Build community and friendship by allowing students to collaborate in making school uniforms and other garments, creating a culture of teamwork and inclusion.

The initiative will enable the installation of well-equipped sewing labs in high-need schools, support teacher training, and integrate practical modules in line with national curriculum standards.

Education Project:
Delivering RACHEL Systems to Kenya

From April 2024 through April 2025, D&D Educational Foundation funded $30,480 for RACHEL Plus systems (a RACHEL, 30-40 tablets and/or laptops with headphones, a projector and screen) to six schools identified by Bonface Masaviru, a friend and local RACHEL Trainer in Kenya, Africa.

Additionally, as his role as a rotarian, Dennis Buschman completed a District Community Grant funded by Rotary with a value of approximately $20,000.

This grant provided RACHEL Plus systems (a RACHEL, 30-40 tablets and/or laptops with headphones, a projector and screen) to another five schools.

Looking to the future, D&D Educational Foundation would like to provide training for teachers on the use of the educational equipment provided to the Kenyan schools.

Washroom Construction Projects

D&D Educational Foundation would like to set up a similar project to the one completed by Mustapha in Ghana.

The project would consist of raising the funds to purchase the supplies necessary to build a washroom with the students and families of the school completing the labor for the project.  The cost of each restroom facility is $12,000.

Children Rescued from a Garbage Dump in Okahandja Namibia

Support for Those that Support Orphans

Meet Paulina.  See the garbage heap behind her?  Because of the aids and COVID epidemic, there are many orphans in Africa.  Paulina has rescued 120 children from this dump. She houses them, feeds them and clothes them. She put all 120 in school and all 120 are still in school.

In Namibia, many people have moved from the land to the city to seek employment and a better life. They find an empty piece of grand and set up a shake to live in. In Namibia, due to the climate, these are usual out of corrugated aluminum. This 'Shantytown' is North of Windhoek, and is about 10 by 15 kilometers.  Most of these buildings are dwelling. There are also businesses.

Many women set up “preschools” which are really baby sitting activity to help other women who go into town for a job. We would like to support and help these women “entrepreneurs” to help them provide a better experience for the children.

If you think a woman like Paulina deserves support, and would like to help, please help us achieve our goals by making a donation.
